Implementing sound crop protection strategies is an important step in the growing process. With today’s commodity prices, producing the best possible yield is essential to a grower’s success.
Achieving high yields requires a grower to develop consistent strategies for defending against pest and disease pressure, along with weed control and nutrient management.
Fungicides and insecticides defend plants against unwanted diseases and keep pests away. Fertilizers and nutrient management technologies help nurture the crop to ensure it receives the appropriate nutrients at the correct time. Together, they ensure the seed starts on the right track and they promote healthy plant growth throughout its life.
Rick Ekins with FMC talks about their Zone of Production™ crop protection portfolio. FMC’s fungicide and insecticide technologies play an important role in crop protection and provide a three-point approach: protect, defend and nurture.
FMC provides product solutions to support these strategies and help growers:
- Defend against seedling insects and disease pressures
- Achieve rapid, consistent and uniform stand establishment
- Protect seedlings beyond typical seed treatment activity
- Mix crop protection products readily with most liquid fertilizers and tank additives
- See benefits early in the season and at harvest
LFR® Formulations mix readily with liquid fertilizers and tank additives, and stay in suspension throughout application with no settling in the tank. Capture® LFR® Insecticide provides protection from a broad spectrum of soil insects with a full-rate range for pest pressures. The formula also provides protection against soil pathogens including antifungal and antibacterial pathogens.
Etho® XB Insecticide/Fungicide
Ethos® XB Insecticide/Fungicide contains a specific strain of Bacillus amyloliquefaciens, a naturally occurring organism with fungicidal properties. The formula creates antifungal lipopeptides during fermentation and as spores germinate and colonize. This generates a biofilm that colonizes root hairs and grows along the root structure and build a defensive barrier to pathogens, which optimizes seed production. The formula also extends disease protection well beyond seed treatments, increasing stand counts and yield potential.
In this clip from our Leaders of In-furrow and Foliar Technology (LIFT2) Summit, Rick Ekins with FMC summarizes his Zone of Production presentation regarding crop protection for corn and soybean plants.
Crop Protection Strategies for Achieving High Yields Transcript:
We’re really talking about providing as much protection in the furrow as you can for corn and soybean plants. We didn’t talk much about soybean plants today but it’s the same issues that you face in corn. You’ve got to protect that plant from insect pressure, you have to protect that plant from disease pressure, so that it can take advantage of all the nutrients that you put in the ground, soil conditions, the environmental conditions and really create a production factory to produce as much yield as you possibly can.
