West Central recently held a Leaders of In-Furrow Technology (LIFT) meeting in cities across the Midwest to discuss in-furrow technology innovations and applications and methods to maximize yield. During the event, attendees gained valuable insights on the best products and application techniques for their growers.
The keynote presentation featured Dr. Fred Below, Professor of Plant Physiology, Department of Crop Sciences at the University of Illinois, who discussed why a systems-based approach works to achieve optimal plant health.
When asked to discuss in-furrow application specifically, Dr. Below made the following points:
- By placing products in-furrow, growers are able to reach the seedling as it develops.
- As growers begin to plant earlier in the season, the advantage of protecting and feeding the plant from the very beginning “…really can pay off in high yield.”
- The LIFT system offers a way to ensure crops get the best start during the early stages of seedling emergence.
