At our LIFT Summit in October 2015, we sat down with Rick Ekins from FMC to discuss in-furrow application technologies and the importance of creating an environment for crops to excel from the start.
Rick says that placing fertilizer, insecticide and fungicide all together in the furrow sets the crop up for a productive season and helps establish a successful yield.
Capture® LFR® is a leading insecticide that establishes a zone of protection and stops pests before the damage can even take place. Using Capture LFR in-furrow allows crops to develop healthy root systems, which leads to excellent plant stand and increased yields.
In-Furrow Insecticide for High Yields Transcript
Well it’s coincidental, or maybe not so coincidental, that this [summit] is about in-furrow technologies, because that’s one of our specialties. We launched an LFR (liquid fertilizer ready) technology several years ago, that’s really just about insecticides in-furrow.
It’s been the platform for us, and we’ve created a brand, Capture LFR, that is currently the leading insecticide brand in this market. That’s the technology platform for us as we introduce new products into this space. So we’ll be talking about LFR technology today.
Last year we started a beta test on a brand new in-furrow technology that is a low volume delivery system, it’s called 3RIVE 3D. It’s a three dimensional expanding formulation through which we’re first delivering an insecticide, but our intent over the long period is to expand that offering into active ingredients based on whatever the grower’s needs are.
LFR specifically is liquid fertilizer ready. Where a grower is using an at-plant fertilizer – a liquid starter system or liquid popups – we’ve created a formulation that mixes readily and mixes immediately into that tank.
It doesn’t require agitation, it doesn’t settle out over time, it distributes the chemistry evenly throughout that liquid fertilizer tank, so that the grower is applying the same amount of chemistry on every single acre until that tank is empty.
That’s really what set that technology apart, and it was the easiest thing in the world to use. You just fill up your starter tank and pour your Capture LFR in there, distribution happens, and the product is delivered where it was supposed to be at the right rates.
We’re spending a lot of time today talking about the early plant benefits, and the early yield results that are established early in the crop cycle. So early in that plant’s life you’re establishing yield, plant population, and the overall health of the plant.
As much as you can bring into the furrow, or early into that plant’s life, that added benefit is going to translate to yield later on in the year. So when you’re trying to establish peak performance, and when you’re trying to ensure that you get as much crop yield as possible, if you can move your insect control, your pathogen control, and your fertility into the furrow, and if you can move a combination of all of those things into the furrow, then you’re creating an environment for that plant to really excel. You’re creating an environment for that plant to never have a bad day.
