Drought, heat, cold and UV light stress are often inevitable problems each year for many growers, and until now, often seen as issues that were not easy to combat.
According to the USDA, 90 percent of arable land encounters some extent of heat and drought stress on an annual basis, with 46 percent of the land encountering heat and drought stress more than once during each growing season.
On average, a corn or soybean plant is in “survival mode” two weeks out of the growing season, which could lead to a potential yield loss of at least 5 to 10 percent or $30 to $50 per acre. Often the most stressful period occurs in late July to early August, during the plants’ reproductive stage, which can be detrimental to yield and negatively impact grower profitability.
The USDA also predicts the corn belt will experience a 15 percent increase in warmer nights, along with extended periods between each rainfall in the future. This potential of warmer nights and longer dry periods will increase the need for ag retailers to help growers find better and more efficient ways to protect their crops against drought, heat, cold and UV light stress.
Keeping the Crop in Production Mode
Through the years there have been many developments in technologies that help combat plant stress. These include transgenes and seaweed extracts which work by helping the plant release molecules to fight stress. Unfortunately, the downside of these technologies are:

Maximizing Application Timing to Get the Best Results
To get the most out of Revival, a foliar application is recommended prior to the crop’s stress period. With soybeans, application is recommended at R1 to R3 to control stress through all or most of the crop’s reproductive stage. To get optimal return, recommendations for corn application are V4 to V7 to prevent stress during the crucial pollination period. With other crops application is recommended at first bloom.
Revival is non-phytotoxic and compatible to tank mixed with common foliar treatments including herbicides, fungicides, insecticides and nutritionals for convenient application timing, based on a grower’s crop management plan.
Revival is similar to a chemistry-based product which allows for an extremely low use rate of 3.2 fluid ounces per acre, compared to many other bio-stimulants or seaweed-based products which can require application rates of 16 to 48 fluid ounces per acre.

In 2015-2016, among 1,500 replicates across the corn belt, yield results showed an 8.6 bushel per acre increase with corn applications from V4 to V7 and a 5.4 bushel per acre increase with a VT application. Soybeans and wheat also saw increases of 1.9 and 3.4 bushels per acre respectively.
