The following phrase from Dr. Fred Below during the first annual LIFT Summit resonated with all of us:
“A corn plant can never have a bad day.”
All of the LIFT partners and guest speakers agreed that the best way to maximize yields is to get crops off to a strong start and ensure that the crops maintain that strength throughout the entire season.
So, how do farmers and retailers ensure that their crops never have a bad day?
Dr. Fred Below from the University of Illinois spoke at our summit, and explained that growers who are seeing record setting yields strategically combine excellent plant nutrition and protection with a high density of the best racehorse hybrids to make sure the crop is never stressed.
Plant nutrition and protection are key. But what about the factors that are out of our control?
In the following clip, Dr. Below ranks his “Seven Wonders of the Corn Yield World,” by bushel per acre value, and explains how they interact with each other to impact yield.
